The purpose of West Lafayette Youth Basketball is to provide a competitive option for basketball to students in grades 2-6 who are in the West Lafayette Community School Corporation.
There are other options in recreational or beginner leagues that are available for those who prefer a less competitive environment. For these options please visit the West Lafayette Wellness Center and the Legacy Sports Club websites.
NEW THIS YEAR: Our teams will now play in the Monon Youth Basketball League. Games are no longer at Legacy Courts, but still on Sundays.
West Lafayette Youth Basketball for 2025-2026 will be divided into two (2) seasons:
| Fall Season 2025 | Winter Season 2026 |
|---|---|
| Sunday November 9th, 16th, and 23rd | Sunday January 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th |
| Sunday December 7th and 14th |
Sunday February 1st, 15th, and 22nd Sunday March 1 |
Teams in the Monon Youth Basketball League include; McCutcheon, Benton Central, North Montgomery, Crawfordsville, Rossville, Lebanon, Western Boone, Monrovia, North Putnam, Cascade, and Greencastle.
The complete game schedule will be finalized by the first week in October, to allow for family planning. Practices for Boys teams will not start until Monday October 20th
West Lafayette is only able to host 1-2 Sundays due to having limited gym space at the Jr/Sr High School. Our teams will travel mostly to McCutcheon, North Montgomery, Crawfordsville, Western Boone, and Lebanon. There will likely be 1-2 times max where West Lafayette teams will have to travel outside of an hour radius.
Game times are attempted to be scheduled as close together as possible, often back-to-back.
Host schools charge admission fees for spectators:
$5 per person. Ages 5 and under are free
NO CHANGES: Practices will continue to take place Monday through Friday at either WLIS or WLES. Team practice days/times/locations will be finalized ASAP after official tryouts and teams/coaches are finalized.
Please keep in mind that practice times are dependent on our volunteer coach’s availability/schedule. We sincerely thank and are appreciative of our dedicated coaches for their time and efforts this upcoming season; they are vital to the success of our youth basketball program!
Practices are set to begin the week of Monday October 20th.
We anticipate being able to finalize teams and coaches before Fall Break.
On school observed holidays or school closing days due to inclement weather, practices will automatically be canceled as the school buildings will not be open.
On days where there is a 2 hour delay in the morning or if weather becomes inclement after school, your team’s head coach will communicate if practice is taking place or not.
There will be a league break that aligns with the Winter Break for the West Lafayette Community School Corporation.
Games will resume on Sunday January 4, 2026 with practices at WLIS & WLES resuming as normal Monday January 5th.
We will work with teams to schedule a practice sometime the week of Monday December 29th so you have a practice before games resume January 4th - school resumes Monday January 5th.
There are no games on Super Bowl Sunday, February 8th.
The final practice of the Fall Season will be Friday December 12th.
The final practice of the Winter Season will be Friday February 27th.
Advance registration and payment is required prior to participation in the team tryouts. We will NOT have registration available at check-in.
Pricing is the same as last year. The total registration fee is $214 (including processing fee) and must be paid in advance online at https://westlafayetteyouthbasketball.com/.
An optional long -sleeve shooting shirt with your player’s name and number will be made available to purchase through your team coach once teams are finalized and the season begins. Your team coach will provide the information, collect payment, and distribute the shooting shirt. The cost for this option is between $25-$30.
It is our goal to place every registered player on a team. However this is dependent on the number of participants and skill level. We want your player to have a positive experience and play against opponents commensurate with their skill level. We will not assemble a team that will not be competitive.
Depending on numbers, each grade may have two (2) teams.
West Lafayette Youth Basketball League will have Varsity and Junior High coaches conducting the evaluations.
Players will be evaluated according to but not limited to the following criteria; shooting, dribbling, defense, effort and attitude. Decisions regarding teams are final.
After the teams have been selected for each grade, the head coach for each team will be selected by the West Lafayette Basketball Coaches.
Should your player not make a team, a refund of $200 will be issued to you via check or credit card.
